SETPOINT™ by Rockwell Razors
Cartridge razors lock you into patented refills that wear out quickly, end up in the trash and cost up to $5 each. Safety razors use simple, universal, all metal recyclable blades that have been off-patent for over 100 years and cost pennies each.
So using safety razor blades is the right choice. The hard part is choosing the right safety razor. Most brands offer mild, medium and aggressive versions. The difference is the blade gap—the opening between the blade and the safety bar through which hair reaches the cutting chamber. A smaller gap gives you a milder shave, but can struggle to cut several days of growth efficiently in a single pass. A larger gap allows more hair to reach the blade, making it better suited to heavier growth. But that same gap can increase irritation when shaving shorter or sparser hair, or sensitive areas. On a fixed-gap razor, that opening cannot change. When you need a milder or more aggressive shave, you need another razor.
Rockwell has always been obsessed with giving everyone the best possible shave, under every shaving condition. That is why every razor we have ever made lets you adjust the blade gap to suit your skin, your hair and the way you shave. Adjustability has been at the heart of Rockwell from the beginning.
In 2015, the 6S put six settings in your hands through three reversible baseplates. Its solid head holds the blade firmly in place and remains our benchmark for blade stability. Changing settings, however, means stopping to take the razor apart and flip or swap a plate.
In 2019, the Model T put adjustment on a dial, followed by the T2 in 2021. You could change the blade gap mid-shave without taking the razor apart. But the butterfly doors that made blade loading easy did not hold the blade as firm as the solid head of the 6S.
We kept working to bring those strengths together. After four years of development, we are proud to introduce SETPOINT™: the solid head of the 6S, with the adjustment dial of the T2. The blade stability you trust, with the freedom to adjust your shave at any moment.
The work did not stop at the mechanism. We kept pushing on how precisely we could build it and we kept trying different materials. SETPOINT™ is CNC-machined from solid metal and for the first time in Rockwell's history, that includes a fully machined aluminum razor in 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum, alongside 316L marine-grade stainless steel. We believe it is the finest razor we have ever produced.
- Continuous dial, 1 to 6. No clicks and no preset positions. Stop anywhere in the range and change it mid-shave, without putting the razor down.
- Blade held rigid at every setting. The blade is clamped, flat and rigid, wherever you set the dial — no flex, no chatter.
- CNC-machined. Machined from solid metal to a tolerance of ±0.01 mm, so every setting is the gap it says it is.
- Two-piece head. A cap and a body, and that's it. No doors, no hinges, no butterfly mechanism, nothing that opens.
- Two metals, three finishes. 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum in black or silver, and 316L marine-grade stainless steel.

Materials and finishes
316L marine-grade stainless steel, CNC-machined — the metal Rockwell is known for, with the weight and balance that comes with it.
First time ever, we are introducing a razor in 6061-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum — anodized black, or raw silver. CNC-machined to the same accuracy as the steel, at roughly half the weight.
Significance of the Blade Gap
The blade gap is the distance between the blade and the solid safety bar. It sets the size of the cutting chamber — the space hair has to get into before the blade can cut it.
As the razor glides across your skin, the leading safety bar presses the hair down. As the bar passes, the hair springs back up inside the cutting chamber and stands straight in front of the blade, exposing its base just above the skin. The blade can only cut the hair that makes it into that chamber.
- Small gap, shorter hair. The hair fits straight into the chamber and is cut cleanly at the base, in a single pass. This is the daily shave, and the areas where hair is sparse.
- Small gap, longer hair. There isn't room. The safety bar presses the hair flat and it never stands back up, so it gets cut at random lengths and you go over the same skin again. More passes, more irritation.
- Large gap, longer hair. The chamber has room. The hair stands up against the blade and comes off cleanly on the first pass — a week of growth included.

How to assemble
SETPOINT™ comes apart into two pieces: the top cap, and the body with the safety bar, dial and handle. There are no doors and no butterfly mechanism, so there is nothing to unlatch and nothing to work loose.
- Twist the knob at the bottom of the handle to release the top cap.
- Lift the cap off.
- Lay the blade onto the top cap.
- Drop the cap and blade back into the razor.
- Press down gently on the cap, then turn the bottom knob until it locks.
- Set your dial anywhere from 1 to 6, and shave.
Loading and unloading is done without touching the blade edge. Used blades go into a Rockwell Blade Safe, which fits any double-edge blade and is fully recyclable once it is full.
100% plastic-free, pennies per shave
Full metal construction, no plastic, fully recyclable — and so are the blades.
SETPOINT™ takes any standard double-edge blade. A hundred of them costs about $18, so roughly 18 cents a blade, and a blade lasts about a week. A cartridge costs up to $5 and lasts about the same.
Put the two side by side and SETPOINT™ pays for itself in about seven months. Over five years a cartridge habit runs to $1,312. SETPOINT™ runs to $196 — a saving of more than $1,100.
Based on a $5 cartridge and an 18-cent blade, each replaced weekly, against a $12 cartridge handle. Cheaper cartridges or less frequent replacement move the break-even later.
